About Us

Gymnastics in the UK is growing fast.

More children than ever want to get involved, and more clubs are expanding their programmes to meet demand. But there’s a major challenge holding us back — there simply aren’t enough experienced coaches to go around.

There are many reasons for this. Coaching can be a high-pressure role. It’s often not seen as a ‘real job’, and historically, many coaches have been undervalued by the very clubs they work for.

Add to that the financial and logistical barriers to progressing through qualifications, and it’s no surprise that the coaching workforce is stretched thin.

Of course, we need a long-term national strategy to recruit and retain more coaches. But that solution won’t arrive overnight. So in the short term, we have to work smarter with the talent we already have.

British Gymnastics clubs are home to some of the best gymnasts in the country — and some of the best coaches. As a collective, we should be able to compete fiercely on the floor, but collaborate off it.

At our club, we’ve been using freelance coaches for over five years. The benefits have been clear — not just for us, but for the coaches themselves, and for the other clubs they work with.

Freelance coaching brings flexibility, fresh ideas, and a chance to share best practice across the country. Coaches get exposed to different environments, different styles, and different challenges. They become more rounded, more experienced, and more confident. Gymnasts benefit too, by learning from a wider range of coaching voices and expertise.

We’ve seen firsthand how this kind of mobility can inject real value into a coach’s career — making their work more rewarding and more sustainable, and helping to reduce the number of coaches leaving the industry altogether.

That’s where Flexicoach comes in.

Flexicoach is a platform that makes coach mobility easy. It connects freelance coaches with clubs looking for cover, support, or specialist input. Coaches set their own hours, their own rates, and take control of their own careers. Clubs find the right people, when and where they need them, without the long-term commitment.

It’s flexible, it’s efficient, and it’s built around trust and shared purpose. Gymnastics doesn’t have a coach shortage problem that one club can solve. But collectively — by opening our doors, sharing our expertise, and valuing our coaches — we can start to make real change.

Let’s build a stronger future for gymnastics. One flexible coach at a time.
